Screening and Q&A with Misha de Ridder
For Amsterdam Gallery Weekend a special screening will take place in Filmtheater De Uitkijk. The film is 21 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A with the artist.
Misha de Ridder's film verwirklichungen, 2020, 21 minutes, consists of five short films or chapters. One of the films is accompanied by music composed by Swiss musicians Daniela Larkin and Thomas Lüscher based on a poem by Emily Dickinson 'Hope is a thing with Feathers’.
verwirklichungen refers to the processes that take place in the landscape over time. It also refers to the fact that the process actually takes shape by our act of looking. The world takes shape because we look at it.
The film is part of Misha de Ridder’s very topical and urgent exhibition resilience on view in the gallery. resilience invites us to think about the position of man in the world, to examine our relationship to what surrounds us. resilience shows works made during a summer in the Swiss Lower Engadin inspired by Thomas Mann’s 1924 novel The Magic Mountain. In those months De Ridder immersed himself in the Alpine landscape, applying his systematic, almost scientific approach and keen eye for color to his surroundings. The resulting photographs and films are anything but scientific. They are ethereal, arresting, and spiritual works, at times bordering on abstraction that sustain engagement through their sublime beauty.
